Woman shot dead for hitting cop id’d as Cariann Denise Hithon, Temple University student

MIAMI BEACH – The woman who was shot and killed by Miami-Dade Police has been identified as Cariann Denise Hithon. Reports suggest that the 22-yearold woman who was driving a Black BMW Sunday ran down a police officer while attempting to flee the scene of an accident.

Initially the woman’s idenitity was kept secret and now it has been revealed. Reports suggest that the woman was driving the vehicle on Sunday when she reportedly hit a truck on 12th Street and Ocean Drive. As she tried to flee the scene, the woman allegedly hit another car on Lincoln Drive. The incident happened at around 6PM.

Police officers have also identified the cop who was hit by her as David Cajuso.

Reports suggest that while trying to flee the scene, she found a large number of police officers close to Washington and 12th Street. As she tried to escape from the scene, she allegedly ran over a uniform patrol officer who was dealing with bystanders.

CBSNews while quoting an eyewitness said, “She started the car and ran away…She was, like, going over the policeman in front of her, the officer…She was staring, it was very scary looking, I think she was on drugs or something”.

When the woman ran over the uniformed officer, another cop started firing at the car and reportedly hit the driver of the vehicle. Nonetheless, the BMW continued its struggle to escape and hit another SUV. The woman who was seriously injured in the process was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center where she died.

In the meantime, the girl’s father Cary Hithon is shocked as to what happened to his daughter who was set to join a law school. “It’s terrible, you can’t help but have quite a bit of despair and anguish, because you don’t understand how it could happen…It’s out of character what they’re telling me, but I’m not there. I believe something was going on. Maybe she did panic”, says he. She was a student at the Temple University.
