Aligarh/ Delhi: The suspense is over and the new Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice chancellor has been announced. Prof. Tariq Mansoor of JNU, who himself is the product of the same college and the university has been appointed the VC of India’s one of the largest and the biggest universities.
Despite being in the new for wrong and negative news due to the obvious media bias associated with everything Muslim, AMU is among the top ten universities in the country with many departments of the university consistently being placed among the top five or top ten best departments in the country.
The news of Prof. Tariq Mansoor’s appointment as the new VC of the university has been met with unprecedented enthusiasm and joy within the university and the huge university alumni found across the world.
While the news of his appointment has spread like wildfire, the suave Prof. has said that till now he hasn’t been informed about his appointment and so he will not make any comment. The news was broken this morning by Indian express.
It was merely last week when Ministry of Human Resource Development had sent the name of three people to the President. The panel included the names of Tariq Mansoor, Abu Saleh Sharif, executive director and chief scholar, US-India Policy Institute, Washington, and Shahid Jameel, CEO, Welcome Trust and DBT India Alliance. The panel of three finalists was sent by AMU’s court, the supreme governing body of the university, which in turn had selected these names from the five forwarded by its executive council in February. Dr Tariq Manoor’s name was on top as he is a professor, while the other two don’t have teaching experience.
Right now Dr Mansoor is working as the Principal and Chief Medical Superintendent, J.N. Medical College and Hospital, AMU since September 2013. He is also the member of Medical Council of India.
His entire education took place in Aligarh. He completed his higher secondary education from Our Lady of Fatima Higher Secondary School, Aligarh. He did his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh. A surgeon by profession with special interest in Breast and Thyroid Diseases, Prof. Tariq Mansoor has 33 years of Teaching and 35 years of Clinical experience. Served as Chairman, Department of Surgery, J.N. Medical College from 2006-2009 and has 90 publications to his credit in various National and International Journals of repute. He has guided 47 Postgraduate Medical Students for their Thesis as Supervisor/Co-Supervisor.
His biodata of JNMC website says, “Prof. Tariq Mansoor has the distinction of having been an elected member of the Executive Council, Aligarh Muslim University representing the Teaching faculty for three terms for a total of nine years. Presently he is serving as member, Executive Council, AMU in his capacity as Principal, JNMC. He has been the President of the Association of Surgeons of India, UPASI from 2010-2011 and Honorary Secretary, AMU Teachers Association from 1997-1999…He has been the recipient of the esteemed “Eminent Senior Surgical Teacher of UP” Award for 2013 by Association of Surgeons of India (UPASI)”.
