Latest reports suggest that a police helicopter that was overseeing the crowd in Charlottesville, Virginia has crashed, killing two people on board.
The two officials who have lost their lives have been identified as Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen, 48, and Trooper-Pilot Berke M.M. Bates.
Virginia State Police while identifying the two deceased officers said that Lieutenant H. Jay Cullen has been survived by a wife and two sons.
Later, police in a statement said that the helicopter was on official duty and “was assisting public safety resources with the ongoing situation in Charlottesville…There is no indication of foul play being a factor of the crash”.
This is not the only incident that caused loss of live there. A white supremacist reportedly drove a car into crowd killing a woman and injuring around two dozen other people. James Alex Fields Jr. has reportedly been identified by police as the driver of the vehicle that plowed into the crowd protesting against a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va. The incident caused the death of a woman and grievous injuries to as many as nineteen other people. At least four of the injured are in critical condition.
Earlier Virginia State Police said in a statement on Facebook said, “Shortly before 5 p.m. today (Aug. 12), a helicopter crashed into a wooded area near a residence on Old Farm Road. There are two confirmed fatalities”.
