Police officials claim that they have arrested a suspect and have taken him into custody. Warren Strain, spokesperson of Mississippi Bureau of Investigation told the media that the shootings occurred at three separate homes Saturday night in Lincoln County.
Authorities claim that they have arrested Cory Godbolt, the main suspect in the shooting at all the three places. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation officials claim that till now charges have not been filed against the suspect and that it would be “premature” to discuss a motive.
While officials are not talking about the motive, the alleged killer said, “I ain’t fit to live, not after what I done”. He told it to The Clarion-Ledger. The newspaper recorded video of the suspect talking as he sat with hands cuffed behind his back on a roadside surrounded by law enforcement officers.
“I was having a conversation with her stepdaddy and her mama and her, my wife, about me taking my children home…Somebody called the officer, people that didn’t even live at the house. That’s what they do. They intervene…They cost him his life…I’m sorry” The Clarion-Ledger report said further.
He said that he didn’t want the police to capture him. “My intentions was to have God kill me. I ran out of bullets…Suicide by cop was my intention”.
Gov. Phil Bryant in a statement said, “Every day, the men and women who wear the badge make some measure of sacrifice to protect and serve their communities. Too often, we lose one of our finest. I thank the law enforcement agencies involved for their hard work”.
