It was not the President who had spoken at Phoenix in such a fiery way that his most ardent supporters were startled by its ferocity. Today President Donald Trump gave a speech at the American Legion’s annual convention in Reno, Nevada on Wednesday that looked completely at odds with his style.
Instead of being belligerent and attacking he looked and sounded subdued. Now everyone is wondering as to who really subdued him and forced him to deliver a speech that caused many people to fall asleep.
Today, instead of rhetoric he tried to look rather rational. Instead of attacking in the air and trying to call press prostitute, he was here listing legislative accomplishments trying to gain a sort of legitimacy for his government.
While speaking on the occasion Trump said, “One year ago, at this gathering, and I remember so many of you so well, I promised you that I would make it my priority to fix the broken [Department of Veterans Affairs] and deliver our veterans the care they so richly deserve…Now you have a true reformer in Secretary David Shulkin…He has done an incredible job.”
The President tried to look like a winner on military front and tried to portray his ‘accomplishments’.
Afghanistan was again his focus. “We will pursue an honorable and enduring outcome in Afghanistan, worthy of the tremendous sacrifice our troops have already made,” he said. “We will give our men and women in uniform the tools they need and the trust they have earned to fight and to win.”
He further said, later: “No longer are we using our military to build democracies. Instead, we’re forming a coalition of nations that share the aim of stamping out extremism, defeating terrorism and pursuing stability, prosperity and peace.”
