18-year olds are hogging the limelight these days. And for all the wrong reasons. Merely a few days after an 18-year old woman was arrested for killing her sister in car crash while drunk, an 18-year old man has been arrested for abandoning his newly born baby in Sunset Shopping Center parking lot in Suisun City, Northern California.
The child, merely 16-day old was left behind in the parking lot by the heartless father. The child was extricated from there by officials when they were alerted by a nearby shop-owner who got suspicious by seeing an abandoned baby carrier.
Later, after carefully analyzing the CCTV footage of the parking lot officials were able to decipher truth and find out as to who was the heartless person who could do such a thing of leaving a 16-day child without any remorse.
The footage showed the 18-year old father, identified by authorities as Daniel Mitchell, 18, driving into the lot in Suisun City on Monday, removing a car seat holding the 16-day-old boy, putting it on the ground and leaving.
Had the baby career not caught the eyes of a nearby barber shop, the child might have died before long. Authorities were able to find out details about the person leaving the baby behind after talking to witnesses and reviewing surveillance video from the area. But more than eye-witnesses, it was the clearly visible car’s license plate that led the authorities to Daniel Mitchell.
Reports suggest that Mitchell suffered a crash in nearby Fairfield and attempted to flee, leading police there to arrest him. In a Facebook post, police officials said that the 18-year old father was then taken to the hospital because of the crash and while there, Suisun City police caught up to him and interviewed him about the baby.
Later the teenager father was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, child abandonment, committing a felony while on bail and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Police said he’d been arrested last month on suspicion of burglary and possessing a firearm, among other charges. On the other hand, the baby’s mother reportedly cooperated with the police. The unnamed mother was not reportedly a suspect in the case.
