New York: In a development of monumental importance for the leading telecom operator in the US, Verizon Communications Inc, has said it is introducing 5G network in as many as eleven cities in the country. The service will be limited to only select customers in these cities.
The telecom giant has said that it intends to launch it on test basis in the latter half of this year and will begin pilot testing 5G “pre-commercial services”.
So if you live in any of the cities including Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Miami, Seattle and Washington, D.C., you may be among the lucky few to avail the services.
For the last several months, Verizon has been discussing the introduction of the 5G network in the US, though the commercial launch of the superfast internet service may not be possible before the year 2020.
5G network is expected to provided data rates of tens of megabits per second for tens of thousands of users, data rates of 100 megabits per second for metropolitan areas, 1 Gb per second simultaneously to many workers on the same office floor and Several hundreds of thousands of simultaneous connections for wireless sensors. Experts are of the opinion that spectral efficiency is significantly enhanced compared to 4G.
