Out of the five people who lost their lives in the purported London terrorist attack, one was an American who was on a Europe tour along with his wife. While Kurt Cochran lost his life in the mindless attack, his wife reportedly sustained serious injuries in the attack.
At the time when the Westminster Bridge was under attack, the couple was unfortunately on the spot, trying to enjoy their outing and making the best use of the time together.
They had the least idea that it will be the last time the two will be together. The attack that followed thanks to the mindless carnage wrought by Khalid Masood was unbelievable for anyone.
Meanwhile reports suggest that Cochran’s wife’s parents were in London when this happened. It is being reported that Melissa Cochran’s parents are serving as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints missionaries.
Cochran’s death has sent shockwaves in Utah. The Utah Gov. Gary Herbert told the media that his family is “praying for the full recovery of Melissa and for all those who were injured and their families. As we mourn with the rest of the world, we ask for peace and comfort for those who were harmed in this terrible attack.”
According to the NPR, he was not alone to pay condolence to Cochran’s unfortunate death in the London terrorist attack 2017. Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, also expressed shock over his death. “Elaine and I offer our most sincere condolences to the Cochrans and stand ready to help them in any way we can. Our prayers are with the victims, their family, friends and loved ones” said Hatch. On the other hand U.S. Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, issued this statement: “I am heartbroken to hear about the violent death of Kurt Cochran and the serious injury of his wife Melissa in London Wednesday. This kind of vicious terrorist attack cannot be tolerated. We, as Utahns are united in grief and loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to their friends and family.”
The couple was very popular among its friend circle. A friend wrote on Facebook, “My friends Melissa Payne Cochran and Kurt Cochran were the first two people injured in the London terror attacks. All I know right now is their injuries are critical. They own an amazing home studio in West Bountiful, Utah…They offered to let me come over and record. I never got around to it and I should have done it. Life is short and precious. Get well soon so I can come down and drop a few tracks. The recording you’ve been doing for Steve Hatch sound amazing! I’ve known Melissa for over 20 years. She used to work at my Dentist’s office. These are two hard working beautiful people. I hope the people that did this are brought to justice.”
In the meantime according to UK Daily Mail, Kurt Cochran “is believed to have either jumped or been pushed over the edge of the bridge onto steps beneath it,” and the Cochrans were the first people hurt on the bridge. Newspapers ran a photo of Melissa on their covers as a stranger comforted her while she lay bleeding on the sidewalk.
