Police have arrested three people who are suspected to have kidnapped a 15-year old Alexandria girl, Jasmine Block. The trio was arrested when the girl was able to somehow escape from their clutches after weeks of sexual assault, beatings and intimidation.
It has transpired now that the person who actually kidnapped the girl from outside her home was a family friend. He had asked the girl to accompany him saying he needed her help in solving some family problem. As the young girl knew him well as family friend, she accompanied him.
He took the girl to his home, kept her in confinement, sexually assaulted her and allowed his roommate to do the same on multiple occasions.
The girl, somehow, was able to run away from her captors and was rescued by police. She was found Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Grant County. The girl had disappeared on August 5.
Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels in a press conference said that Jasmine Block was located in rural Grant County early Tuesday afternoon. She was being treated at Douglas County Hospital for minor injuries and has been reunited with her family.
Missing Alexandria girl’s mother Sarah J Block in a Facebook post said, “We found jasmine and she is safe. I will not be answering any messages or calls”. Sarah later posted a photo on her Facebook page of herself and Jasmine reunited.
Later in another Facebook post, Sarah J Block said, “I just want to say thank you for helping for never giving up! I thank the law enforcement for being on top of everything working their days off not sleeping much etc for those that were negative shame on you! 3 people have been arrested I will not share any details as this is an ongoing investigation and I tell everyone to respect that. I also ask to respect jasmine myself and her sisters as we have been apart 4 weeks and its been alot so give space. The prayer vigil will still go on Friday to welcome her home. God answers prayers! I am so damn proud of her and so happy to have her home safe with us. Thank you all so much”.
Police Chief Rick Wyffels says three people have been arrested for the criminal confinement and intimidation of an underage girl. The three have been identified as Thomas Barker, 32, Joshua Holby, 31, and Steven Powers, 20. The police chief said, “[Barker] tricked her by saying he would like her to come help with a family situation and Jasmine was already familiar with the other family members who do not live with him in that neighborhood…She’s thinking he’s trusting and honest, she goes ‘I’ll just go with you right now.’ So she gets in the car, except he takes her to Carlos and ties her up.” The police chief said that on many occasions the girl was pushed into a closet.
