As many as thirteen people coming back from a church related sojourn lost their lives to a young and rather careless driver. The 20-year old Jack Dillon Young, who was driving the pickup that hit the small bus in which the seniors were travelling, was apparently driving rashly. This can be safely said as the officials claim to have received a 911 call telling them about a pickup, travelling very dangerously in the middle of the road.
This careless driving by Jack Dillon Young caused the death of 13 people. Fourteenth traveler of the bus has suffered life-threatening injuries and is still admitted in a hospital in critical condition.
The unfortunate incident has impacted several families scattered over a large area and their relatives are mourning their death. One of the victims’ close relative in a Twitter message said, “Go see your mother or father if they are alive. You don’t know if you will be able to see them’. While this can be true about anyone, including brothers and sisters, but it was simply very moving.
Their photos are among the most searched pictures on the internet and social media. People are paying tributes to the seniors who lost their lives in the mindless and unfortunate tragedy.
Rose Harris (Survivor)
The 64-year old, Harris, is the only survivor who is alive after the accident. She is in ICU of a leading hospital and is still not out of danger.
“Rose is in good spirits, devastated with the loss of 13 of her closest brothers and sisters is Christ, but is joyous in knowing the celebration with Jesus is where they are now at peace. Rose has broken bones and is very traumatized at personally witnessing the horrific incident. Please, continued prayers for healing, and continued prayers for family and friends of loved ones now in heaven. All my love to you beautiful people…i thank each of you” one of her relatives wrote about the woman on her Facebook page.
61-year old Ronda Allen acted as a part time hospice girl. Mother of three daughters, she was chirpy and in great physical and mental shape. She was living in New Braunfels, Texas, and actually belonged to Pasadena, Texas.
69-old Hawkins was also among the victims. One of her friends wrote on her Facebook page, “Yesterday we lost a very good friend and Square Dancer. Her name was Donna Hawkins…She lost her life in a horrific bus accident in Texas along with 12 others. She was returning from a religious retreat when their bus was hit head on. Donna was the consummate Square Dancer. She was always supporting the activity. She danced often, and was a club president, CA State council historian (always with a camera in her hand!) and so much more. When Donna was at a dance everyone knew it! If there is such a thing as the “Life of the Dance” Donna was it! Who could forget her ‘All girls Squares.’ Rest in Peace Donna I and so many others will miss you so much!”
