New Delhi: Tarek Fatah, the controversial Pakistani-Canadian writer and journalist is expected to be deployed in Uttar Pradesh by the BJP to campaign on its behalf. The well-known Islam basher who is hosting a very controversial and apparently anti-Muslim TV show on Zee News, Fatah ka Fatwa, may be deployed in UP assembly election to boost BJP chances.
While his usefulness in the crucial elections in the most populated state in the country is still unclear given the presence of several motor-mouths in the saffron camp, he is expected to take Islamophobia to an all new level.
While Fatah is yet to speak a word on his chances of canvassing for the saffron camp in the state, a report by Siasat daily says “Forces trying to spread communal hatred for getting power in Uttar Pradesh are likely to use Islam-basher Tarek Fatah as their tool. Fatah is projected as a true voice of Muslims by the Hindu communal-fascist forces. It is being tried to make believe that the Islam followed by the Muslim youth is not the Islam by ordained by ‘Maula’ (God) but commanded by ‘Mulla’ (preacher). Thus difference of opinion is being created among Muslim youth with a plan to divide them”.
Fatah is a well-known columnist based in Canada. While introducing himself he says, “I am an Indian born in Pakistan, a Punjabi born in Islam; an immigrant in Canada with a Muslim consciousness, grounded in a Marxist youth. I am one of Salman Rushdie’s many Midnight’s Children: we were snatched from the cradle of a great civilization and made permanent refugees, sent in search of an oasis that turned out to be a mirage. I am in pain, a living witness to how dreams of hope and enlightenment can be turned into a nightmare of despair and failure. Promises made to the children of my generation that were never meant to be kept…Today, the result is a Muslim society lost in the sands of Sinai with no Moses to lead us out, held hostage by hateful pretenders of piety. Our problems are further compounded by a collective denial of the fact that the pain we suffer is caused mostly by self- inflicted wounds, and is not entirely the result of some Zionist conspiracy hatched with the West.
