A South Carolina father, Keon Myers, committed suicide when his two year old son accidentally shot himself with a gun. The boy who shot himself in the head didn’t survive and died. Even before the child’s death, his 38-year old father committed suicide despite police officials trying to convince him not to take the extreme step.
The two year old boy has been identified as Kyree Myer. Police officials claim that they got a call complaining of shooting in a home in the locality. When they reached on the spot, they found a child badly injured with a gunshot wound to his head.
A press release by the Columbia Police Department said that police officers did their best to convince Keon Myers not to take his life himself and drop the gun, nonetheless he didn’t understand, remaining adamant and eventually shooting himself.
Both the father and son were taken to the hospital where both were pronounced dead on arrival. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says they both died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Authorities claim that the toddler found a loaded and accidentally shot himself with it.
Police chief Skip Holbrock felt hratbroken and said, “Our hearts are heavy at the tremendous loss of life. We have victim advocates assigned to the case to assist the family during this difficult time…This experience has also been emotionally trying for responding officers. They will participate in a debriefing to discuss the incident and receive further support as needed.”
