DOBBINS, Calif. – Two sheriff’s deputies were shot in Dobbins, California, while confronting a suspect in pulling up marijuana plants. the incident that happened in Marysville Road, near the communities of Oregon House and Dobbins — about 55 miles north of Sacramento , saw the police officials search a rural home. The suspect was not found in the home, but he is said to have fired at the police officers. Later the suspect was found dead in a nearby home.
Authorities claim that the man, who first shot at the sheriff’s deputies, wounding both of them, was later found dead. The circumstances leading to the person’s death are not yet clear. It is also not clear if he died of self-inflicted wounds.
Authorities claim that they received a call complaining about someone pulling up marijuana plants on a farm that supplies pot to a Rastafarian church.
Yuba County Sheriff Steve Durfor while talking to the media said that three deputies in response to a report of an unclear disturbance arrived separately at the small farm in remote Oregon House, which is about 55 miles (88.5 kilometers) north of Sacramento, beginning at about 8:40 a.m.
He said that a person guided them towards the suspect, who reportedly fled up a hill behind the farm and deputies lost sight of him after about 100 yards near another home. While the deputies didn’t found the home they searched, they were fired upon when they came out of the house.
Reports suggest that as none of the three deputies had any idea as to what happened to the suspect, SWAT teams fired tear gas inside before entering and finding the dead man. Till now, according to sheriff, it is not known if shooter was killed by deputies or if he shot himself. His identity is yet to be established.
Update: One of the Sheriff’s deputies name is Shane. Reports suggest that he is out of danger after surgery. The other deputy also underwent surgery and is reportedly out of danger.
