Lucknow/ New Delhi: Waseem Rizvi, the chairman of UP Shia Waqf Board who is trying to save his skin from different corruption cases by trying to please the BJP and the RSS in every way possible. After making several outlandish claims against the Muslims in the state and against Muslim institutions, he crossed all the limits when he said that madrasas in the state were factories producing terrorists in the state.
His outrageous statement has created furor across the country with Muslims, from both Sunni and Shia communities coming together to denounce his statement, removal of Rizvi as the chairman of Shia Waqf Board UP, and his immediate arrest. Ulama and religious leaders belonging to both Shia and Sunnia communities have asked the UP chief minister Aditya Nath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately arrest him and constitute a CBI inquiry against him for numerous corruption cases.
The ulama expressed surprise over the lax attitude of the government against Rizwi despite numerous cases of corruption and alleged embezzlement of Shia Waqf Board properties. They said that when Central Waqf board has sought a CBI inquiry against him, why the central and state governments are not taking any action against him.
They claimed that Waseem Rizvi is making such outlandish claims against Muslims and their institutions only to save his skin and avoid sure arrest in the corruption cases.
Rizwi had earlier said, “I have written to the Prime Minister and Chief Ministers, Chief Secretaries of all states and Union territories. The Maharashtra government has already ordered a high-level probe after receiving my letter’.
If that was not enough he further said, “Running a madarsa has become lucrative business for mullahs who collect donation and `zakat’ from society. The kind of education imparted in these religious institutions is only breeding ignorance and unemployment. Such madarsas are flourishing more in rural areas”.
“These madarsas are causing immense harm to the society as students passing out from these institutions are cut off from the mainstream and lack skill for any employment. They either remain unemployed or become mullah and open a new madarsa,’’ argued Rizvi.
“How many madrasas have produced engineers, doctors, IAS officers ? But some madrasas have produced terrorists. In West Bengal, the police had detected a terror module where madarsas were imparting training for bomb manufacturing and as per another report as many as 58 madarsas were found to be having links with `Jihadist outfits,” said he.
Shia Muslims have condemned his latest comments and asked the government to arrest him without any further delay. Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad, a prominent Shia scholar and community leader was quoted by the Inquilab Daily as saying, “The Shia community unanimously condemns the statement of Waseem Rizvi. The question that arises is why the UP government has not taken any action against him. Why no CBI inquiry has been ordered against him and why police is not filing charge-sheet against him despite incriminating evidence against him?’
The ulama who condemned Rizvi include both Shia and Sunni scholars. The list includes the name of prominent shia scholars including Maulana Husain Mehdi Hussaini, Maulana Syed Kalbe Jawwad Naqwi, Maulana Muhsin Taqwi, Maulana Jalal Hyder Naqwi, Maulana Abid Abbas, Maulana Taqi Agha, Maulana Raza Hyder besides many others.
