Sunday was a memorable day for Sergio Garcia. It is a day that he will not be able to forget ever. The 37-year old millionaire golfer won the Masters 2017, one of the biggest golf events in the world. As the crowd cheered the new champ, the one from among the crowd who stood out was his fiancée Angela Akins.
Sergio Garcia took a plunge into golf at a very early age. He started winning club level championship when he was all of twelve year old and soon caught the attention of experts who are always on the lookout of potential talent and future champs.
The 37-year old Spaniard is without doubt among the top golfers in the world. Despite not being able to win many of the top tournaments, he has spent much of his career in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking (over 300 weeks between 2000 and 2009). He reached a career high ranking of 2nd after winning the HSBC Champions tournament in November 2008, and has achieved post-tax career earnings of more than $28 million.
As he won the Masters 2017, not just he is in focus, his sweetheart and fiancée is also in focus right now. Sergio Garcia and Angela Akins got engaged in January this year after dating for a long time. She is not just associated with Golf Channel, but has played golf as well. While talking about her golf past, she said, “[My teammates and I] created some lasting memories when we were at Texas…We worked very hard every day practicing and staying in shape, but we were always having fun.”
Reports suggest that she hasn’t stopped playing golf and a report in the Statesman merely two years ago said that she still plays golf regularly. Akins (in 2015) was the women’s club champion at Spanish Oaks Golf Club in Austin and played with what the paper called “a stout handicap of 3.”
Before she joined Golf Channel, she had a rather very long career as a sports anchor. Golf Channel page bio about her says that she was reporter and co-host for several FOX Sports Southwest programs. These included “Fox Football Friday,” a live four-hour highlight show of Texas high school football, and “Access Golf,” a half-hour golf lifestyle program. Sergio Garcia’s net worth is estimated to be around $45 million.
