Washington DC: There are reasons to believe that the sudden rise of Sebastian Gorka in Donald Trump administration may be coming to a sudden end. While there are speculations that he may be given some other and obviously less visible role in Donald Trump team, there are other speculations that his stint in Trump administration has come to an unceremonious end.
While his sudden exit has come due to his alleged relationship to a far right Hungarian organization, experts have questioned his understanding of a serious topic like security. He has also been attacked for his unabashed views of equating Islam with extremism and extremist ideologies like ISIS and al-Qaeda.
The 46-year old Sebastian Lukács Gorka is a British–born Hungarian and American security analyst known for his conservative views. It was only in the year 2012 that the British born Gorka became a naturalized American citizen. Despite his writings appearing in the leading news sources, Gorka has been characterized as a rather fringe figure in academic and policy-making circles. Critics have questioned his competence and challenged his views on Islam and radicalization.
Sebastian’s wife Katharine Gorka is also a security expert and both have worked together for a very long time on the threat of Islamist terrorism. Apparently it is among the most powerful couples in Washington DC.
There is no denying that fact hat business partners as well as published co-authors, the Gorkas made successful careers out of their shared passion. In an interview to a leading media organization Gorke said “Our pillow talk is the Islamic State and Al Qaeda”. While this may be rather an exaggeration, the two have won some respect, particularly from conservatives.
A report while talking about how the two work together says, “We write together all the time,” Gorka said during an hourlong conversation with POLITICO. He brushed off the overlapping passages as “probably something I dictated or that we came up with together.” Much of his writing and that of his wife, he explained, is the result of a “collaborative effort,” even if that’s not clear to readers. “She’s my wife and she’s my closest collaborator,” he said”.
Katharine Cornell Gorka is the President of the Council on Global Security, a think tank, and was the president of Threat Knowledge Group, a former consulting firm that offered counter-terrorism training. On November 30 2016, The Intercept reported that Gorka had been appointed to be part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s transitional “landing team.” She served as the Director of the Westminster Institute and the Hungarian office of the National Forum Foundation. She was a Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute. Gorka lived in Hungary for 12 years where she co-founded with her husband, Sebastian Gorka, the Institute for Transitional Democracy and International Security.
