SAN DIEGO – The mother of the 15-year old boy, Jacob Peterson, who was shot dead by two San Diego police officers, has issued a statement asking people to protect the family’s privacy. She said that the loss was huge and they are mourning the loss of their affable child.
The 15-year old boy, Jacob Peterson, a student of Torrey Pines High School was shot dead by police officers in the parking lot of the school on Saturday when he pulled out a BB gun pointed at police officers.
Till now the San Diego Police Department hasn’t released the footage of the body camera. This is something that has annoyed civil rights activists in Arizona. They are demanding the immediate release of the body camera footage to show if the shooting was avoidable or not.
Jacob Peterson’s mother Serena McCann in a statement told Fox 5, “Our family is mourning the loss of a loving and wonderful young man. We ask that you respect our privacy as we remember him and all he meant to us.”
In the meantime the local community is mourning the unfortunate death of the young boy. A makeshift memorial that was started Saturday, continued to grow Sunday, as well-wishers left flowers, candles and notes at the edge of the parking lot where the shooting occurred.
Reports said that the boy had called 911 to check on an unarmed boy in the parking lot of the school parking. Officers claimed that the child who was armed with a BB gun, brandished the gun when they approached at him. SDPD’s Lt. Mike Holden said, “As the officers exited their patrol car, the subject pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it directly at one of the officers…Both officers drew their weapons while repeatedly giving the male commands to drop his handgun.”
