New Delhi: Sakshi Maharaj has once again created ruckus across the Hindi heartland by trying to repeat the narrative that the BJP tends to repeat time and again. The population explosion in the country is attributed to Muslims without looking into facts, overlooking the repeated census report that suggest declining birth ratio among country’s Muslims.
BJP and its sister concerns are expected to up the ante and create communal tension in the state that is set to hold crucial elections beginning next month. The elections that will be held in seven phases are crucial as a loss here in the state will be a huge embarrassment for not just the BJP but its mascot Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sakshi Maharaj, a BJP MP from Unnao constituency in UP was at his vitriolic best when he said, “Population is increased by those who support the concept of four wives and 40 children. Strict laws are required in this country if we really want to curb population. Parties need to rise above politics and take decision for the sake of the country”.
Later, when an FIR was filed against him, the BJP MP said he didn’t target any particular community. “I have not commented on any community. I have been misquoted and am ready to face Election Commission,” he said.
He further said, “I had said that the population of India is approx 132 crore. India’s landmass is not increasing but our population keeps on increasing. We need to control this menace. We should respect women and I had said that she is not a machine, that is why 40 wives, 40 kids and triple talaq are no longer tolerable. We need to take a decision whether we should have one, two, three or four kids. But we need to take a decision on this”.
In the meantime the BJP has distanced itself from his MP’s comments without taking any action against him. An FIR was registered against the Lok Sabha MP under IPC sections 298, 188, 295A etc.
