Russian Sukhoi 25 fighter jet shot down in Syria, pilot killed: VIDEO
The Russian fighters have shocked everyone beyond belief by shooting down, a Sukho 25 fighter aircraft. This is one of the most potent fighting machines in Russian arsenal.
Latest reports suggest that the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft who had ejected safely was killed when he tried to fight off the insurgents. He was killed on the spot.
The war in Syria is far from over. Not just Turkey is trying to subdue Kurds close to its borders with Syria, other players in the game haven’t given up as yet. On the contrary, the insurgents who have been fighting against the oppressive regime of Bashar Al Assad still retain the desire to fight and even outsmart Syrian forces and their Russian and Iranian allies.
The Russian defence ministry has confirmed that one of its aircraft has been shot down in Syria’s Idlib. Russian officials claim that the pilot of the Sukhoi 25
Sukhoi, developed in the late seventies has been part of the Russian air force for more three decades. The type has seen combat in several conflicts during its more than 30 years in service. It was heavily involved in the Soviet war in Afghanistan, flying counter-insurgency missions against the Mujahideen. The Iraqi Air Force employed Su-25s against Iran during the 1980–88 Iran–Iraq War. Most were later destroyed or flown to Iran in the 1991 Persian Gulf War. The Georgian Air Force used Su-25s during the Abkhazia War from 1992 to 1993. The Macedonian Air Force used Su-25s against Albanian insurgents in the 2001 Macedonia conflict and, in 2008, Georgia and Russia both used Su-25s in the Russo-Georgian War. African states, including the Ivory Coast, Chad, and Sudan have used the Su-25 in local insurgencies and civil wars. Recently the Su-25 has seen service in the Russian intervention in the Syrian Civil War.

“The pilot managed to report the ejection in the area controlled by the militants of Jabhat al-Nusra, but later he died fighting the terrorists,” a statement by the Russian ministry of defence said. A video circulating on social media shows a dead body of what is purportedly the pilot of the downed plane. Other videos show fires raging while rebels guard the plane’s crash site. Shortly after Russian authorities put out this statement, warplanes conducted more air strikes on the area where the plane was shot down.
Insurgents have said that the Russian plane was shot down above Idlib province, which is one of the so-called de-escalation zones set up in Syria last September in an effort to scale back the conflict. However, bombardments from Syrian government forces and their Russian allies have continued.
