If reports are to be believed, Rosie O’Donnell’s ex-wife Michelle Rounds has committed suicide. The news was initially broken by leading entertainment blog TMZ. She was 46.
Michelle Rounds was reportedly suffering from severe depression and was undergoing some sort of psychiatric treatment.
Rosie O’Donnell and Michelle Rounds were married in the year 2012 and were divorced three years later in the year 2015. The two had adopted a daughter together as well.
Rosie O’Donnell is a well known comedian, actor and television host. In 1996, she began hosting a daytime talk show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show. The show proved very successful, winning multiple Emmy Awards, and earning O’Donnell the title of “The Queen of Nice” for her style of light-hearted banter with her guests and interactions with the audience. As part of her playful banter with her studio audience, O’Donnell often launched koosh balls at the crowd and camera. She also professed an infatuation with Tom Cruise.
In a statement mourning the death of her ex-wife, O’Donnell said, “I am saddened to hear about this terrible tragedy. Mental illness is a very serious issue affecting many families. My thoughts and prayers go out to Michelle’s family, her wife and their child.”
In the meantime, TMZ quoted her mother as saying, If anyone would like to give to the National Suicide Prevention it would also be greatly appreciated. There are so many out there in this world that have demons that they think suicide is the only way out …” She was reportedly married to Krista Monteleone at the time of her death.
