Stockholm truck bomber has finally been named by Swedish authorities. The bomber who rammed his massive truck in a busy market three days ago, causing the death of at least four people and injuring many others was caught by the police a few hours after the horrendous incident.
Initially officials said they had arrested a middle aged Uzbek national. Later it was revealed that the same person’s application for residency was rejected by authorities last year. Now, finally the Stockholm truck bomber’s name has been made public by authorities.
The lawyer of the 39-year old Uzbek national, Rakhmat Akilov, says that Akilov has confessed of driving truck and ramming it in a crowd of shoppers in Stockholm. Latest reports suggest that the Stockholm District Court after analyzing the evidence and Akilov’s admission that he was the driver of the ticket ruled that police could detain him for a month.
Till now, despite rumors doing the rounds, no other person has been arrested in the case, nor any terrorist organization has claimed responsibility. Police said Akilov was known to have been sympathetic to extremist organizations but that there was nothing to indicate he might plan an attack. His Swedish residency application was rejected last year.Johan Eriksson, said Akilov is “pleading guilty” to Friday’s attack but said he was not allowed to say more about the case.
Meanwhile officials have named all the people killed in Belgium mall attack. Two were Swedes, a Belgian woman and a British man. Reports suggest that the Briton has been identified as Chris Bevington who worked for Spotify.
