Chennai: Super hero, Rajinikanth is all set to make his political debut sooner than later. The actor is being persuaded by the BJP to join hands with the saffron party to fill the void created by the untimely death of AIDMK cofounder Jayalalithaa.
There are chances that India’s most saleable actor is not just preparing to enter politics, he is also preparing groundwork to launch a political party of his own.
There is no denying that this is an ideal time for the launch of a new political party in this Southern state given the fact that the void left by Jayalalithaa is yet to be fulfilled. With infighting in AIDMK not showing any sign of subsiding, Rajinikanth, given his star status can attract the chunk of followers that want a larger than life personality to lead them.
His Bangalore based brother Satyanarayana Rao Gaikwad said, “It is the people’s wish that Rajinikanth should enter politics. He has just ended the first round of consultation with his fans and well-wishers who were urging him to take the plunge”.
While this seems a dream for his fans, Satyanarayana’s remarks come in the wake of the actor’s address to fans recently. While there was no direct indication of his plans, there were enough innuendos to create a buzz in political circles. The actor said there were good politicians in Tamil Nadu, but the “system was rotten”. He urged his fans to help clean up the system and be prepared for “battle”.
The actor has been meeting his fans in different parts of the state. These meetings are highly publicized and will set the mood for his grand entry. He met fans from 15 districts in Tamil Nadu from May 15 to 19. “He wants to meet as many fans as possible before firming up his plans. With the response being overwhelming, the outcome would be hopefully positive and Tamil Nadu will usher in a new era in politics,” said Satyanarayana.
The BJP has been wooing the super star to join the saffron party to have a grand entry into the state politics. But the superstar may prefer to have his own party. Satyanarayana Rao said his brother prefers to float his own political party and may not join hands with any. The name and the structure of the party were being worked out, Rajini’s brother added.
BJP has not shied away from publicly wooing Rajini. P Muralidhar Rao, BJP national general secretary in charge of the party affairs in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, said senior leaders from his party were in touch with Rajinikanth. “Talks are on with him for some time now. There is a lot of positive vibes mutually. While it is up to him to take the decision, we welcome him if he wants to join BJP,” he said. Will he bite the bait, is the moot question that everyone is asking.
