Washington: Donald Trump’s problems with the media are not going to end anytime soon. There is no denying that after MSNBC threatened to make his tax details public, he has become all the more annoyed with it. He has already taken some very tough steps against the media, banning some leading media houses from some White House press briefings.
The Rachel Maddow show’s rating is expected to go up following the latest controversy surrounding President Trump’s tax returns. While the President had defied all the demands to make his tax details public, the MSNBC theatrics forced him to act and make it public even before the cable network could make it public.
While attacking the Rachel Maddow show on MSNBC, a Trump statement said that it was aimed at increasing the show’s ratings at his expense. “You know you are desperate for ratings when you are willing to violate the law to push a story about two pages of tax returns from over a decade ago”, the statement read.
Earlier, 43-year old Rachel Maddow claimed on her show that she had got hold of Trump’s tax returns. She told the audience that she will invite David Clay Johnston on her popular show to talk about them. However, she later revealed that the network obtained Trump’s 1040 form from just 2005. The White House later confirmed that Trump paid $30 million in taxes in the year 2005.
President Trump’s statement said, “Mr. Trump paid $38 million even after taking into account large-scale depreciation for construction, on an income of more than $150 million, as well as paying tens of millions of dollars in other taxes, such as sales and excise taxes and unemployment taxes, and this illegally published return proves just that”.
There is no denying that Rachel Maddow show is very popular. Latest figures suggest that her show had with 2.62 million viewers in the wee of March 6. It was her best showing in the 25-54 demographic since October 2008. With the latest controversy, the show is set to become all the more popular.
