Chennai: India’s leading racer Ashwin Sundar met an unfortunate incident today when his high-end BMW crashed into a tree and caught fire. The 31 year old racer and his wife were charred to death inside the vehicle.
The incident that happened in Chennai has sent shockwave across the sporting world. People rushed to the scene after coming to know the unfortunate news.
Ashwin Sundar was a big name in India’s car racing spectrum. In the year 2007 he emerged winner in the Indian champion in Formula Hyundai and Formula Swift categories. Then in the year 2010 he won MRF Formula 1600 International Challenge champion. He won the championship a second time the next year winning MRF Formula 1600 International Challenge champion 2011. In 2012 he won National Champion F4 and went on to win the same title again the next year.
The NDTV reports that Ashwin Sundar was accompanied by his wife Niveditha. The incident, which was caught on video and went viral on social media, happened at around 3:30 am on Saturday. Both Ashwin and his wife, a doctor at a private hospital in Chennai, died on the spot after their car swerved out of control and crashed into a tree, catching fire.
Police claim that both the occupants of the BMW failed to open the gates on time. These gates usually get jammed following such incidents. Their bodies have been sent to the Royapettah Government Hospital for a postmortem examination.
