Instead of one student who reportedly lost life in Marshall County High School shooting, at least two people have lost their lives. Reports suggest that the shooter was a 15-year old student who studied in the same school in Benton, Kentucky.

If latest reports are to be believed, there are at least 14 people, most of them students of the school with bullet wounds.


The shooter, a 15-year old unnamed student of the Marshall County High School was taken into custody soon after the shooting took place. The first shots were fired in the school at around 8 a.m. January 23. The student, who is said to be male, was transported to jail immediately after being taken into the custody. Reports also suggest that many of the injured were taken to different hospitals in helicopter.

Meanwhile, officials have announced the names of the victims of the shooting as Preston Cope and Bailey Holt. Both the victims were said to be 15 year old.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin said in a tweet, “Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS…Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded…Much yet unknown…Please do not speculate or spread hearsay…Let’s let the first responders do their job and be grateful that they are there to do it for us…” Later, while talking to the media Bevin said that 14 people were shot, including the two victims who were killed, and five others suffered other injuries.




School officials and authorities claim that the 15-year old gunman entered the school with a handgun and opened fire. In a tweet, a student at the same school said, “Pray for Marshall County High School, I am a student there and we just had a school shooter, multiple students injured, please pray for us.” If reports are to be believed, the injured students and other people were taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee by helicopters.

In the meantime, the identity of the suspect hasn’t been revealed as yet. The Kentucky State Police, in a statement announced that the suspect was arrested by a Marshall County deputy. The shooter is a student and acted alone. A vigil will be held for the victims of the shooting at 6 p.m. at the Briensburg Baptist Church in Benton, Kentucky.
