Panneerselvam revolts against Sasikala Natrajan: latest developments

ViewsHeadlines Desk,

Chennai: O. Panneerselvam, who had tendered his resignation as the chief minister of the state two days ago has surprised everyone by claiming that he was forced to resign. He has also said that if people want he is going to take back his resignation.

Things are becoming rather complicated as VK Sasikala has already been elected leader of the ruling AIADMK and thus she is chief minister (in waiting). Only a revolt by a majority of party members can remove her from legislature party chief.

Earlier late this evening O. Panneerselvam, who has been the chief minister of the state thrice, always being a surrogate CM for late chief minister Jayalalithaa, visited her memorial and meditated there for close to an hour.

The whole drama takes a serious turn when seen in the background of delays in V.K. Sasikala’s swearing-in as Chief Minister of the state. Governor has been delaying his arrival in Chennai to make things rather more complicated.

There are reports doing the rounds that Panneerselvam, also AIADMK party treasurer, proposed Ms. Sasikala’s name for legislature party leader at the MLAs’ meeting on Sunday and faxed his resignation to Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao. The sudden turnaround seems to confirm that there is larger game plan.

After his meditation, Panneerselvam talked to the media saying, “If people wish, I would even withdraw my resignation, says Panneerselvam…I would fight to save the party and the goodwill of Jayalalithaa’s legacy”.

He went on to add, “during this a meeting of MLAs was called. I went to Poes garden. And they said Ms. Sasikala should take over as CM. I thought what was the need for that. I never knew about the MLAs’ meeting at all. And I asked why am I being humiliated like this after foisting the job I was not willing to take over, he says…I never revealed it because I don’t want any bad name for the party or Amma’s legacy”.
