Mumbai: A well-known actress of yore who acted in a well-received film Pakeezah was abandoned by her son and daughter too in a Mumbai hospital. Reports suggest that the woman in her sixties was brought to a private Mumbai hospital.
When the hospital staff asked him to deposit some advance to start the treatment, the man who had brought the old woman, in frail condition went out on pretext of getting cash from ATM. But he never came back to see his mother.
Hospital staff later realized to their horror that the woman abandoned by her husband was none other than Geeta Kapoor, an actress of yore who had acted in many films including well-received film, Pakeezah. Pakeezah, is a 1972 Indian cult classic film, written and directed by Kamal Amrohi, who was known for his perfectionism. The film had music by Ghulam Mohammed and Naushad Ali. The film starred Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Nadira, D.K. Sapru and Veena . Meena Kumari’s performance as a golden-hearted Lucknow nautch-girl drew major praise.
According to Kamal Amrohi, one of the best filmmakers that Indian produced, he hoped to create a film which would be worthy of her as an actress, and worthy of the love he felt for her as a woman. Meena Kumari regarded the film as Kamal Amrohi’s tribute to her.
Reports suggest that the woman, in very bad shape was taken to SRV Hospital in Mumbai for low blood pressure. Despite the disappearance act by her son, doctors at the hospital continued the woman’s treatment as her condition was quite fragile. The hospital made multiple attempts to contact Geeta’s son Raja and her daughter Pooja, but their efforts yielded no results.
SRV hospital administration has approached the police to seek help in finding her son and daughter. It has also been reported that soon after admitting Geeta to the hospital, her son Raja moved out of their flat and ignored all phone calls made by the hospital. Attempts were also made to contact her daughter Pooja, who allegedly replied with a ‘wrong umber’ before hanging up the phone.
