Oscar best picture mix up video –WTF moment in Moonlight/La La Land goof-up

ViewsHeadlines Desk,

Los Angeles: This is something unprecedented. The way things were handled during the Oscars 2017 was simply unbelievable. The Best Picture award was handed to the wrong film and it has made the 89th Academy Award ceremony simply a laughing stock.

The best picture award was handed to the wrong film. Many thought that as La La Land was the front runner, it will get the award. But when, despite the award going to a different film, was given to La La Land producers, the whole audience looked surprised.

Academy-Awards

Reports suggest that this happened as Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway were given the wrong envelope. The envelop, apparently, bore the name of La La Land’s Emma Stone.

The goof-up caused a monumental embarrassment and the people who rushed to receive the award were turned back, while one was stopped from completing his sentence. La La Land has three credited producers and all of them, looking triumphant, rushed to get the award. While Fred Berger was delivering his acceptance speech, he was cut short by none other than Jordan Horowitz, who announced that his film had lost and that the winner was Moonlight.

Later, PricewaterhouseCoopers released a statement, apologizing for the huge mistake that the accounting firm had made.

We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture. The presenters had mistakenly been given the wrong category envelope and when discovered, was immediately corrected. We are currently investigating how this could have happened, and deeply regret that this occurred. We appreciate the grace with which the nominees, the Academy, ABC, and Jimmy Kimmel handled the situation” said PwC.

In another release the next day, it further said, “PwC takes full responsibility for the series of mistakes and breaches of established protocols during last night’s Oscars. PwC Partner Brian Cullinan mistakenly handed the back-up envelope for Actress in a Leading Role instead of the envelope for Best Picture to presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway. Once the error occurred, protocols for correcting it were not followed through quickly enough by Mr. Cullinan or his partner”.
