Attacks against police officials have gone up substantially in the recent past. Police officials are targeted by not just common criminals, gang members, but also common citizens who take the law in their own hands at the spur of the moment. On Friday night, there were at least two attacks on police officials in two places in Florida, killing one officer and injuring many others.
A police officer was reportedly killed while another was badly injured in Kissimmee, near Orlando, Florida Friday night. There were multiple shooting incidents targeting police officials on Friday in two different cities of Florida.
In another incident reported from Pennsylvania, two state troopers were reportedly shot at in Fairchance, south of Pittsburgh. Thankfully, both the state troopers seem to be out of danger and in stable condition.
Kissimmee Police Chief Jeff O’Dell told the media that officials were able to detain a suspect who was identified as Everett Miller. The suspect was arrested after high drama that lasted several hours.
Nonetheless officials are still searching for other criminals accused in the shooting spree. Kissimmee Police Chief Jeff O’Dell said the man has been arrested on first-degree murder charge. Authorities originally said they believed there were four suspects, but the chief said no other arrests are anticipated.
Jeff O’Dell told the media that Officer Matthew Baxter was the person who was killed in the attack while Sgt. Sam Howard remains at a hospital fighting for his life.
While talking to the media, Jeff O’Dell said “This is a tough time in law enforcement…I would ask that you pray for the men and women of law enforcement.” Baxter’s body was being transported from the hospital, his colleagues joined each other in a procession.

It is said that the two officials including Officer Howard and Officer Baxter were shot when they responded to a call. The police chief says that the two officials were actually responding to an emergency call at around 9:30 p.m. in the area of Palmway and Cypress Streets.
The police chief says that the two police officials were in the vicinity of Orange Blossom Trail and John Young Park when they were “ambushed” by at least one person, who is now in custody.
An eyewitness Alexis Nieves says, “I just started crying…I didn’t know what to think, it’s so sad. I was in the middle of it all and couldn’t believe what was happening. I called my friend in tears. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Police chief said that the O’Dell said that Baxter was a three-year veteran of the police force, a husband and a father of three children. His wife is reportedly also a law enforcement officer.
A number of people have expressed grief over the untimely death and the manner of death of the police officer. Facebook user Neida Beauvoir says in a Facebook post, “My family knew him and we are heart broken. We are praying for the family and for all those grieving the death of our officers tonight, who serve to protect our community. May peace be with you all”.
