Lucknow: Union minister and former BJP president, Venkaiah Naidu, had said that Muslims will have representation in the new BJP government in UP. But the cabinet that was sworn in today had one Muslim face and no cabinet minister. Yogi Adityanath, the mahant of Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur was sworn as the new chief minister of the state along with 23 cabinet ministers.
The BJP has absolute majority in the assembly. It has 325 MLAs in the house of 405 members. The swearing in of the new council of ministers was attended by the entire BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister of the BJP ruled states and the party president Amit Shah.
Mulayam Singh Yadav, the SP patriarch and his son and the former chief minister of the state, Akhilesh Yadav, were also present during the swearing-in ceremony. BSP chief Mayawati was conspicuous by her absence.
Meanwhile the 44-year old Yogi Adityanath was sworn-in as the 21st Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a day after he was unanimously chosen by party MLAs as the legislative leader at a meeting in Lucknow. The oath taking ceremony took place at Smriti Upvan in Lucknow and was attended by senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah.
UP will have two deputy chief ministers including Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma. The two were also sworn-in as the deputy chief ministers of the state. The best part is the fact that neither Adityanath is a member of the UP assembly, nor his two deputies.
Apart from that, a total of 23 leaders took oath of the cabinet minister. Here’s the complete list:
Swami Prasad Maurya
Rita Bahuguna Joshi
Surya Pratap Shahi
Dara Singh Chauhan
SP Singh Baghel
