Finally the officer who shot the Australian woman, who was preparing for her marriage next month, has been identified. For the last more than twenty four hours there were speculations surrounding the identity of the officer who reportedly shot the 40-year old woman grievously that caused her death within no time.
The Minnesota police officer who shot the woman from inside the police vehicle has reportedly been identified as Mohamed Noor. It was merely a year ago, when the Somalian, Mohammad Noor’s joining Minnesota Police was celebrated across the town. Now the same man, who was being praised by almost everyone, is under intense attack. The Minneapolis police officer who is accused of shooting and killing Justine Damond, an Australian yoga teacher and spiritual healer, was the first Somali-American officer in his precinct.
The 40-year old Justine Damond, who taught yoga in the city and was a spiritual healer at Harriet Spiritual Community, was reportedly shot dead at about 11.30pm on Saturday by police.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that the Australian woman who lived with her fiancé had gone outside to meet a police car in front of her house in Minneapolis was shot dead with no provocation. It is said that Justine Damond was shot through the door of the police vehicle by an officer who was reportedly sitting inside the vehicle. The identity of the officer remains unknown.
Justine Damond, who is also known as her original name Justine Ruszczyk was a very popular teacher and her pupil are unanimous in their praise for their teacher. They claim that it is simply unexpected to see a good woman like her being shot by anyone, let alone by a cop.
Authorities are being criticized for being rather vague about releasing details as to what happened. A report by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune claims that the woman was wearing pajamas when shot and was speaking to Noor’s partner at the time through the window of a police car in which Noor was allegedly a passenger.

The Star Tribune Report goes on to add, “Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources confirmed. No weapon was found at the scene”.
Mayor Betsy Hodges was all praise for Mohamed Noor when he joined Minneapolis police department last year. “I want to take a moment to recognize Officer Mohamed Noor, the newest Somali officer in the Minneapolis Police Department…Officer Noor has been assigned to the 5th Precinct, where his arrival has been highly celebrated, particularly by the Somali community in and around Karmel Mall. The community even hosted a meet and greet event (see pics) to welcome him…A wonderful sign of building trust and community policing at work. Welcome Officer Noor and all of the new officers in their new precinct assignments across the City”, said she.
Mohamed Noor is well qualified and is popular among the police force of the city. Noor has a Degree in Economics and Business Administration from Augsburg College and worked in Property Management primarily in commercial and residential properties both in Minneapolis and the St. Louis Missouri.
