Memorial Day 2017 is finally here. People are remembering the national heroes who gave utmost sacrifices to keep the nation save from the evil eyes of its opponents. There were powers out there planning to decimate the young nation called, but our heroes and martyrs ensured that such powers were defeated, beaten and destroyed.
Memorial Day is a time to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice defending America. On Memorial Day, the flag of the United States is raised briskly to the top of the staff and then solemnly lowered to the half-staff position, where it remains only until noon. It is then raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. Memorial Day observances in small New England towns are often marked by dedications and remarks by veterans, state legislators, and selectmen.
Many people across the US visit cemeteries dedicated to the people who lost while serving in the nation’s armed forces. The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who gave their lives in service of their country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all.
