Los Vegas: Manny Pacquiao may not be in his best shape. Following his retirement, and then after the retirement of his adversary-in-chief, Floyd Mayweather, interest in him has gone down a lot. But if you thought that the lethality of the fighter has been impacted, you must be prepared for surprises.
The way the Filipino has fought in the last few months, proves beyond doubt, that he is as lethal as he was in his best days. As a boxer, he has grown up and despite, losing some power of his punch, the improvement in his technique means that he is as good in the ring as he was a decade or so ago.
Now there are confirmed reports that the Filipino senator, Manny Pacquiao, has finalized his next fight, slated for the April 23 with none with Pakistani, British lightweight boxer Amir Khan.
The boxer from Bolton whose family life is under a lot of media glare recently, must be feeling lucky, as after his last fight, many people thought that his boxing career had ended. Now Manny Pacquiao seems to have infused a new life in his career.
Reports suggest that Amir Khan had agreed to every single term by Pacquiao’s team. He described the fight a “super fight” in a Twitter post. Pacquiao and Khan are no strangers to one another: They were both trained together by Freddie Roach.
Reports suggest that in mid-February, Pacquiao asked his Twitter followers who he should fight “next in the UAE” — Khan was the overwhelming favorite, winning 48% of the votes cast. It has not yet been disclosed where the fight will take place.
There is no denying that Khan is a fast bowler, but the controversies surrounding him and recent losses have badly impacted his image. On the contrary, Pacquiao last year won two consecutive victories, defeating Timothy Bradley in April and then emerging with a win against Jessie Vargas in November. Khan’s last fight was in April last year, when Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez knocked him out with a massive blow. Will Pacquiao destroy his fighting career or will be beaten by Khan’s super speed is yet to be seen.
