Kochi: The main accused in Malayalam actor attack and molestation has reportedly been arrested. While the police couldn’t find the main accused, who had led the criminals in waylaying of the award winning actress’ car and abducting her, he himself walked into the chamber of the judge and surrendered.
The gruesome incident happened on Sunday, when a renowned Malayalam actress was abducted in his car and molested for more than two hours in the broad daylight. The actress was travelling to Kochi from Thrissur for a film shoot and the accused are said to have connived with the driver to stage the kidnapping and molestation.
Latest reports suggest that the main accused was taken into police custody from Kochi on Thursday as he tried to sneak into a judge’s chamber to surrender. There was a heavy police presence in the court premises but Sunil Kumar, alias Pulsar Suni, and his aide, Vijesh, also an accused, managed to reach the chamber of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM) unnoticed, sources said. The CJM was out for lunch. As Kumar and Vijesh tried to get out, police nabbed them.
There is no denying that it was very humiliating for the police to see the duo coming out of the judge’s chamber. Their lawyers alleged that they were pulled out of the chamber by policemen in plain clothes.
The award winning actress who began her Malayalam film career at the age of 16 years was attacked by a seven member gang. In her complaint, the actor said Sunil Kumar told her to “co-operate” as they were doing a “quotation work”. He also threatened to inject her with drugs and take her to a secret hideout, she said. The “quotation mafia” is the Kerala equivalent of “supari” gangs – criminals for hire. It is unclear who hired the gang but accusations are that the motive was to derail the actor’s career.
Initially there were reports that the actress was gang raped in the moving car, but later, reports suggested it was not the case.
