Kochi: A leading Malayalam actress, Bhavana, was reportedly abducted today in her own car and for two hours, her captors continued sexually assaulting and molesting her. All this while, the car remained moving in Kochi, a big industrial town in Kerala.
In a ghastly incident that shows the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Kerala, four people stopped and entered her car forcibly. They started driving her car with her inside near Athani in Angamaly. Reports suggest that Bhavana actress was molested for more than two hours by the four men till they reached Palarivattom, which is roughly 25 kms away. It is said that at that precise spot, the abductors left her in the car and fled in a waiting car from there.
Police officials have said that Bhavana, who is a leading Malayali actress was on her way from Thrissur to Kochi to dub for an upcoming film. It is being said that it was not her personal car and that the car in which she was traveling besides the driver was been arranged by the production house. After the car left Thrissur around 7 pm, the driver, Martin, allegedly got in touch with someone on his phone. The actress told police that Martin even asked her if she was in a hurry to get to Kochi.
Police officials said that some 25 km away from Kochi, a van hit her car from behind. As the driver Martin got out of the car, ostensibly to assess the damage to the car, four men in the van allegedly forced their way into the actress’ car and drove away with her.
Millions of her fans are outraged and it has become a major issue in the state. in the meantime P Vijayan, a senior police officer in the region said though the actress hadn’t alleged rape, the accused would face charges under Sections 366 (kidnapping), 376 (rape) of IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act.
He went on to add, “The assailants forcibly took her photographs. Two of the four men in the car are drivers who work in the film industry and she was familiar with them. One of them, Sunil, has a criminal record and was her driver until recently. Their motive seems to have been to fleece money from the actress by blackmailing her using the photographs”.
Bhavana, whose real name is Karthika Menon is known by her stage name Bhavana in the film circles. the 30-year old actress made her acting debut in Kamal’s Malayalam film Nammal (2002), which won her critical acclaim and various honors. In a career spanning over a decade, she has appeared in over 75 films and won two Kerala State Film Awards.
