New Delhi: Congress party’s second list was finally made public. With the 127 candidates list, the Congress’ list for MCD election 2017 is complete. The party, till recently was expecting to do well in the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls 2017, but the poor showing in UP assembly election has taken the air out of its grand plans for Delhi.
The party’s slide in the National Capital Territory of Delhi cannot be starker. After ruling the union territory for three terms in a row, the party saw its most humiliating performance two years when it failed to win a single seat in Delhi assembly. While the BJP too didn’t do well, it was able to win three seats. The remaining 57 seats went to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal.
Now AAP too seems to be on the slide. There is brewing factionalism within the party and the humiliating losses in Punjab and Goa assembly elections where it was expected to win handsomely has left the party and cadre uncertain about the future.
In the meantime, the factionalism within the party became apparent when former health minister in Shiela Dixit government said that he was planning to quit the party. He is a senior leader of the party in Delhi and his exit may be a huge embarrassment for the Congress.
