A small plane reportedly crashed in the middle of I-15 near Riverdale, Utah, killing all the four occupants. The eyewitness accounts while describing the incident claim that the aircraft appeared from nowhere, nosedived and crashed. The fire that subsequently engulfed the plane was so strong and vicious that the bystanders couldn’t do anything in either dousing the fire or helping the travelers escape from inside the plane.
The crash closed the freeway to northbound traffic for several hours, impacting southbound traffic too as only one route was open to the traffic in the area.
While the plane crashed into a very busy highway, there are no reports of any other vehicles being damaged or anyone else being injured. Meanwhile, officials have released the identities of the four people who lost their lives in the unfortunate plane crash. There were two middle-aged married couples heading for a vacation.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Allen Kenitzer said that it was not very long after the take off when the plane went down. It had taken off from a municipal airport popular with private pilots north of Salt Lake City. The four of the occupants of the plane have been identified as Layne Clarke, 48, and Diana Clarke, 46, from Taylor, Utah and Perry Huffaker, 45, and Sarah Huffaker 42, from West Haven, Utah.
Layne Clarke was flying the plane when it went down in the form of a fireball. The plane had taken off in a single-engine Bonanza from Ogden Hinckley Airport, on their way to Island Park, Idaho. Clarke’s brother had lost his life in a plane crash in 2002.
KUTV quoted the dialogue that took place between the pilot and the tower. “Ogden tower, this is 6-0 Whiskey Bravo on runway 1-7. Ready for takeoff,” the pilot radioed to the tower. “I’d like to alter my plans and head out west, northwest to get above these clouds. Zero 2 Bravo.”
The controller said, “Still need you to you to make a left downwind departure now…And runway 1-7 cleared for takeoff.” The pilot responded, “Alright, 1-7 cleared for takeoff, left downwind at Zero 2 Bravo”.
Merely a few minutes later, the pilot radioed again saying, “Hey. I’m going down,” said the pilot. Zero Whiskey Bravo. Zero-Whiskey…” “I just heard him go down…He just hit the highway there. Oh s— the air controller said”
