BALTIMORE— Search for the missing Howard County teacher has intensified. The female teacher who is four months pregnant went missing last Monday.
She was all set to join the school on the first day of school, but she didn’t turn up. The teacher who has been identified by authorities as 31-year old Laura Wallen is an affable teacher who is loved by her students and respected by her colleagues.
Latest reports suggest that a large number of students have joined the search for the missing teacher. Even former students of the school have joined the search. They are trying to find out a teacher who is among the best in the school. They are doing it out of admiration and respect for her.
During the weekend the students joined the multi-agencies search that has continued for the last several days. The students distributed flyers in the town and surrounding areas in order to create awareness about the missing teacher.
Police say that the woman, whose full name is Laura Elizabeth Wallen was last seen at the Olney condo where she lives alone about 8:30 a.m. Monday. According to police, the family got a “troubling” text message from her about an hour later, but attempts to reach her have failed. Police don’t want to release the contents of the text message she sent.
She was set to join the school at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, the next day. But she didn’t reach their either. Her father, Mark Wallen, says that missing the school was unthinkable for her. She simply loved teaching and couldn’t have ignored it.
Mark Wallen believes there is some foul play involved in her disappearance. “You feel so helpless at that point because you don’t know where your child is,” says he.
In the meantime Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks says, “Well we’re reaching out to, of course, family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and also other strategies I don’t want to get into at this time”.
Her sister Jennifer Kadi says her world has shattered. “This is like an alternate universe…It just doesn’t seem real…That obviously puts an enormous amount of worry on us because she is out there somewhere and she has a baby, so that’s a really scary thing”.
(Police are asking people to share any info about Wallen’s location or the location of her car should call police at 301-279-8000.)
