New Delhi: A Delhi University student’s gang rape by five men in the capital has ashamed the Indian capital once again. The capital has been witnessing a steady rise in the cases of sexual assault in recent years, but of late it has become endemic.
Merely two days ago, a one year old child was raped in the national capital. There problem has become so acute that people have stopped taking note of such ghastly incidents. They just shrug off and move on with their lives.
In a ghastly incident, once again perpetuating the Indian capital as the most insecure place for women, a 20-year-old student of a DU college was gang-raped by five men. It is said that she was given sedative laced drugs and following this, five men took turn to rape her one after the other.
The incident happened three weeks ago, but it was only now that she gathered courage to approach the police and recount the ordeal. The girl, whose name has been withheld, told cops that on February 3, she had attended an annual function at her college in south Delhi. Then, one of the accused had proposed to throw a party at his house in Faridabad. The woman drove with him and another friend to Faridabad. One the way, they were joined by three others. She alleged one of them had spiked her drink during the party after which she had fallen unconscious.
After repeatedly raping the hapless girl, the perpetrators of the crime threatened to harm her if she approached the police or revealed that matter to anyone.
But apparently her ordeal was not over as yet. One of the accused who had ‘volunteered’ to drop her outside home, drove her to a desolate spot and raped her inside the car. He too threatened to release the video online.
The terrified girl didn’t report the crime to either the police or her parents and gathered the courage only now. In the meantime police went on a hunt and arrested all the five accused from their houses in Faridabad on Friday. A case under section 376-D was registered against them.
