ANCHORAGE, Alaska – It was expected to be a memorable journey for the couple and their three teenaged daughters. Going to Alaska on a cruise ship with around four thousand five hundred passengers, travelling in a state suite is a dream come true for many. They wanted to have a great time.
Everything seemed to be going fine, when all in a sudden, things took a turn for the worse. A great family outing ended in the shocking death of the wife, a Utah based real estate agent, who was murdered by her husband in a fit of rage after a verbal spate. Reports suggest that at least one of the three daughters of the couple witnessed the gory death of their mother, at the hands of their own father.
Reports suggest that 39-year old real estate agent, Kristy Manzanares, was found murdered Tuesday night as the cruise ship Emerald Princess traveled between Ketchikan and Juneau.
Kristy’s husband of eighteen years, Kenneth Manzanares, has reportedly been charged with murder after he was discovered with blood on his hands and clothes. While the murder was being committed in the state suite, where the couple and their children were staying, a drama with a murder plot was being played. This may be the reason, that the yelling of the daughter for help, might have been taken as a part of the drama.
In the meantime, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds to help the girls and meet the funeral expenses of Kristy Manzanares. Till now, the campaign has raised as much as $4000 out of the total $30000 that is being planned to be raised.
Kristy’s husband may end up spending his entire life behind high prison walls. Reports suggest that the maximum punishment Kenneth Manzanares faces if found guilty of federal murder charge is life in prison or the death penalty.
Till now his bail has not been set and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 10. McCoy approved change of venue from Anchorage to Juneau for further proceedings in the case.
Eye-witnesses have said that there was verbal fight between the two that snowballed into a vicious fight. After killing his wife, Kenneth reportedly tried to jump overboard but was restrained by members of the ship’s crew. The two had been married for close to two decades. In fact the two were celebrating 18 years of marriage and their three teenage daughters were with them on the vessel. A co-passenger was quoted by AOL as saying, “One of the little girls from that room came running out calling for help that her parents had been in a fight. She sounded pretty desperate”. The cruise company said that the Utah family, consisting of five members, boarded The Emerald Princess in Seattle on Sunday for a seven-day cruise.
