Bangalore: The second semi-final of IPL 2017 hasn’t begun on an explosive note. People were expecting huge shots by the batsmen of the two teams from the word go. But till now, there haven’t been much of hitting that is associated with IPL.

On the contrary, the beginning has been rather slow for Sunrisers Hyderabad that were asked to bat by Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain. Many thought that the team that will win the toss will bat first. But Gautam Gambhir of Kolkata Knight Riders decided to field instead of bat.

The match that is being played here on Chinnaswamy Stadium has responded well to his decision thus far as Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to capitalize the decision in the beginning. David Warner, the Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, said he would have batted first anyway, had he won the toss – as he had done in last year’s final at the same venue.

The match in Bangalore is proving to be a neutral ground for both the teams. To be true, David Warner’s side hasn’t not yet played a match in Bengaluru this season, with their scheduled match against Royal Challengers Bangalore washed out. Knight Riders romped to a six-wicket win here against Royal Challengers, with explosive fifties from Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn hauling down a target of 159 in just 15.1 overs.

It must be kept in mind that Bangalore Royal Challengers, led by Indian captain Virat Kohli has performed poorly in the tournament and was the second worst playing team in the entire tournament. In the second semifinal of the tournament, both teams made four changes each. An injury to Manish Pandey forced a middle-order change for Knight Riders, with Suryakumar Yadav returning in his place, while Nathan Coulter-Nile bolstered the pace attack in place of the allrounder Colin de Grandhomme. To make up for the consequent weakening of the batting, they brought in Ishank Jaggi for his first game of the season, in place of the seamer Ankit Rajpoot. The last change was a wristspinner-for-wristspinner swap, the legspinner Piyush Chawla coming in for the left-armer Kuldeep Yadav.
