Joydip Bhattacharjee, a professor at the premier Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur died while trying to save his son who had fallen in a water body close to the campus.
Latest reports suggest that Joydip Bhattacharjee, a faculty member of Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering drowned while trying to save his four year old son.
A PTI report claims that as the son of the renowned teacher fell into the water body, he tried to pull out his son but lost balance and fell into the ditch. The incident occurred near the IIT campus at West Midnapore district
Locals, who saw the incident tried to save the duo Local people took Joydip Bhattacharjee, a faculty member of Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and his son out of the water and took them to hospital where the professor was declared brought dead.
Administration said that the professor was taking a stroll with his two children outside the campus when one child fell into a ditch while trying to take a selfie. Dr Bhattacharjee tried to pull out his son from the water but lost his balance and fell into the ditch.
Registrar Pradip Ghosh said, “He went outside to spend the Sunday with his two children. We are shocked to hear the news about his death.
While expressing his shock over the death of the Professor, Dean Faculty Professor Subhasis Tripathy said “IIT-KGP mourns the loss of its faculty Professor Joydip Bhattacharjee. It is unfortunate we have lost such a young, talented soul”.
