Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese was shot at near Ohio River in Steubenville. He has been seriously injured in the shooting incident. Latest reports suggest that two people were involved in the shooting incident. One suspect was shot dead while the other suspect has been arrested and is in police custody.
Reports suggest that Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese was shot at Monday while he was walking in front of a courthouse.
The reason behind shooting of the judge is yet to become known. Police have refused to say anything on the intent of the attackers against a respectable judge.
In the meantime Steubenville City Manager Jim Mavromatis while talking to the media said that the shooting was observed by an alert court probation officer who returned the fire, eventually killing one of the suspects. He also told the media that a second man who was in a car with the suspect has been apprehended by police officers.
Reports suggest that the courthouse remained shut today. The City Manager was all praise for law enforcement agencies including the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, City Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He said that all the concerned department are working in close association to crack the case.
Joseph J. Bruzzese Jr is a judge on the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas in Steubenville, Ohio. He joined the court in 1998. Bruzzese was re-elected to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas in 2014, winning a new term that expires on February 8, 2021.

The Judge received both his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from the Ohio Northern University. He was the county court judge at Wintersville for many years before being elected to replace longtime common pleas judge Domenick Olivito in 1995. Bruzzese won re-election to his latest term in 2014.
Reports suggest that Judge Joseph Bruzzese was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital. He is believed to be in stable condition. The suspect’s body could be seen lying next to a car at a neighboring bank drive-thru. Police say a man who was in a car with the suspected shooter was taken into custody.
State Representative Candice Keller in the Ohio House of Representatives in a Facebook post said, Our thoughts and prayers go out to the members of Steubenville’s Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr. as he was ambushed by shooters while walking into the Jefferson County courthouse today…We pray for a swift recovery for Judge Bruzzese and that his family might feel peace right now. An armed probation officer shot one suspect and officers have taken a second person into custody. Thank goodness for strong, competent law enforcement and security…It is a frightening time to be in leadership in this country. We need to pray for civility and calm as we press forward to open dialogue and resolution in a difficult time.
