Police officer Lt. Jeff Neville, was stabbed in the neck this morning at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan. While the police officer survived the attack, authorities are investigating the attack as an act of terrorism.
David Gelios of the FBI told the media that Lt. Jeff Neville was in stable condition and expected to fully recover. Authorities have identified the attacker as Amor Ftouhi. While releasing more details about him, authorities have said that Ftouhi is a Canadian citizen who legally entered the U.S. in Lake Champlain, New York, on June 16. The man has been arrested and sent to jail.
The Canadian citizen was reportedly out of the TSA screening area when he attacked the police officer.
An ABC report while detailing the sequence of incident says quoting FBI’s David Gelios that the alleged attacker went into a public restroom, then dropped his bags and “came out, pulled out a knife, yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ and stabbed Lt. Neville in the neck”.
Gelios told the media that the Canadian was armed with a roughly 12-inch knife with an 8-inch serrated blade. The FBI official said that the attacker, “continued to exclaim ‘Allah’ and he made a statement to the effect of ‘you killed people in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan,’ and, ‘We’re all going to die.'”
Later, the airport was evacuated. A news report said that passengers were safe and were being told to check for flight delays or cancellations. The state police said on Twitter that the airport was closed. Five flights were affected, said airport director Craig Williams.
In the meantime, Ken Brown told The Flint Journal he was dropping off his daughter at the airport and saw the officer bleeding from his neck. He said he saw a man detained by police and a knife on the ground. “The cop was on his hands and knees bleeding from his neck,” Brown said. “I said they need to get him a towel.” “At this time we are taking extra precautions just to be safe,” Mayor Karen Weaver said in a statement.
Many people are trying to find out as to what is the meaning of Allahu Akbar. Allahu Akbar means, Allah is the Greatest, is an Arabic phrase.
Details about Lt. Jeff Neville’s family including his wife and other family members will be updated as soon as we get them. Update about his health condition will be shared in the hours to come.
