Washington DC: President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, is reportedly under FBI scrutiny in Russia investigation. The investigation has plagued the Trump administration and has created a misgivings between White House and establishment including investigative agencies.
An NBCNews report claims that Jared Kushner, a billionaire real estate magnate, who is also working as a top advisor to President Trump is under investigation.
Kushner has been advising Trump on almost all the major issues including international relations. He has been travelling to the world with Trump. Many say that among all his advisors, Trump gives the utmost importance to Jared Kushner, whom he respects more than anyone else.
Investigators belonging to different investigative agencies claim that Kushner has substantial information related to their inquiry regarding Russian interference in American Presidential election. Nonetheless, officials claim that it does not mean they suspect him of a crime or intend to charge him.
The latest development takes the FBI in front of the Trump doorstep. The Washington Post first reported last week that a senior White House official close to Trump was a “person of interest,” but did not name the person. The term “person of interest” has no legal meaning.
Nonetheless, they don’t put Jared Kushner in the same category as Flynn who was shown the door last month. According to the Justice Department’s U.S. Attorneys’ Manual, “A ‘subject’ of an investigation is a person whose conduct is within the scope of the grand jury’s investigation.” It is also unclear is what precisely about Kushner’s activities has drawn the FBI’s interest as it investigates whether Trump associates coordinated with the Russian campaign to interfere in the election. Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is now leading the probe as a special counsel.
It is now clear that President’s son-in-law met at least once in December with the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, and he also met last year with a Russian banker, Sergey Gorkov. “Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings…He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry” Kushner’s lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, reportedly said while talking to a leading TV network.
