James T. Hodgkinson – Who was Alexandria shooter

ViewsHeadlines Desk,

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A shooting incident has shocked the entire nation. A man reportedly opened fire on Republican lawmakers at a congressional baseball practice Wednesday. The shooter wounded at least five people including House GOP Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana. There were several congressmen who were participating in the baseball practice match. Reports suggest that it was a crazy incident where lots of ammunition was used.

The police traded fire with the lone attacker for quite sometimes before the attacker was shot dead by police snipers.

Michael Brown, chief of police for Alexandria, Virginia, while talking to the media after the serious incident said, “This is a stable situation…At this point, there’s no additional threat. We consider this incident to be a closed incident under investigation.”

The lone shooter who came well-prepared to have a long fight with the police was later identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois. He has been recognized a Democratic sympathizer.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, who was beaten by Hillary Clinton to bag the Democratic nomination, said that he was sickened by the despicable act. He accepted the fact that the 66-year old man had volunteered on his presidential campaign.

FBI, that according to reports is analyzing the shooter’s Facebook post has found that he was highly critical of President Donald Trump and his policies. A CBS report while quoting a law enforcement officer said, “based on an initial assessment it appears the suspect was increasingly frustrated over the political direction of the country, CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports. There was no indication that the shooting was inspired by a terrorist group or ideology”.

Bernie Sanders, in a statement said “Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society … Real change can only come about through nonviolent action, and anything else runs against our most deeply held American values.” Reports about the possible political nature of the attack and that the gunman in the incident sought to determine the political affiliation of those at the practice before going on his shooting spree, inflamed an already toxic political atmosphere, although Democratic lawmakers and their aides, who were practicing elsewhere for Thursday night’s Congressional baseball game, immediately suspended their routine and sent prayers and condolences to their GOP colleagues.

The shooter’s Facebook page has a banner image of Senator Bernie Sanders and a profile picture about Democratic Socialism. In a Facebook post he said “I Want to Say Mr. President, for being an ass hole you are Truly the Biggest Ass Hole We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office.” Merely a few days ago he wrote on his same Facebook page, “Make America Great Again, Resign!,” along with a meme of Trump with the words, “All in all it’s just another prick in the wall.” He also wrote, “Trump is Guilty & Should Go to Prison for Treason” and “Trump is a Mean, Disgusting Person.”

He belonged to Belleville, Illinois and was one of three siblings graduated from Belleville Township High School, where he was on the wrestling and track teams. Later he joined Belleville Area College. The same college is now known as Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Later he studied aviation at Belleville Area College in 1969, before transferring in 1971 to Southwestern Illinois. Hodgkinson was married to Suzanne Hodgkinson, according to KMOV-TV. He also has a daughter and grandchildren, according to his wife’s Facebook page. The couple raised several foster children, friends said.
