US president Donald Trump has sacked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) chief James Comey. The news seems to have shocked the entire Washington as he was conducting investigation into Russian interference in US presidential election.
Here seems to be a man who is neither trusted by Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton who was beaten by Trump in the Presidential Elections. Ms Clinton, partially holds him responsible for her electoral loss over a political neophyte.
Reports suggest that Comey has been fired by President Trump over Comey’s probe of Hillary Clinton’s emails last year. In a Press release, White House said that the FBI director was no longer able to effectively lead the law enforcement agency.
Comey, who was appointed as the FBI director some four years ago by former President Barack Obama has been leading an FBI investigation into allegations of Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion with Trump’s campaign. The way he has been suddenly removed unceremoniously from his post is likely to create an impression that the investigations in the allegations are not impartial.
In a letter addressed to Comey, President Trump said, “It is essential that we find new leadership for the FBI that restores public trust and confidence in its vital law enforcement mission”. Trump told Comey in the letter he accepted the recommendation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions that he could no longer provide effective leadership. Comey’s term was to run through September 2023.
Corey’s dismissal is going to put a question mark on the entire investigation into Russian role in US presidential election. A New York Times report says, “Not since Watergate has a president dismissed the person leading an investigation bearing on him, and Mr. Trump’s decision late Tuesday afternoon drew instant comparisons to the “Saturday Night Massacre” in October 1973, when President Richard M. Nixon ordered the firing of Archibald Cox, the special prosecutor looking into the so-called third-rate burglary that would eventually bring Nixon down”.
James Comey and Patrice reportedly attended William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia, meeting in 1978 as freshmen. “Nearly everything I am and have done in my adult life is due to the great good fortune of marrying up” Comey said about his wife after being appointed the FBI director..
The two had six children together, but lost a son when he was just 9 days old. In an article she says, “MY BABY DIED a month ago today. He was nine days old. Collin Edward Comey was killed by a preventable infection. I am sharing our tragedy so other mothers’ babies might be saved”. The other children of the couple are Abby, Claire, Brien, Kate and Maurene. Their daughter, Maurene, also attended William and Mary and then Harvard Law School, the Daily Press said. They have five surviving children including Maurene Comey (Daughter), Brien Comey (Son), Abby Comey (Daughter), Claire Comey (Daughter) and Kate Comey (Daughter)
