San Diego: Another young boy has lost his life at the hands of police officers. Reports suggest that a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot by two police officers when he pointed a BB gun at an officer in the parking lot of a San Diego high school.
The incident seems rather very perplexing indeed. Authorities suggest that a 911 call was received. The caller asked the officers to check on the welfare of an unarmed boy standing in front of Torrey Pines High School.
After the shooting incident, authorities suggest that circumstances indicate that the boy himself had made the 911 call.
While talking about the sequence of events, authorities said, “As the officers got out of their patrol cars to contact the male, the male pulled a handgun that was concealed in his waistband and pointed it at one of the officers”. “Both officers drew their weapons while repeatedly giving the male commands to drop his handgun. The subject refused to comply. Fearing for their safety, both officers fired their weapons” Police statement went on to add.
Several shots were fired from the weapons of the two officers that directly hit the young boy. He was pronounced dead at a hospital where he was later taken. Investigators found out after the shooting that he was carrying a semiautomatic BB air pistol, police said.
Reports suggest that while both the officers were wearing body cameras, till now the footage hasn’t been released. The teen was only identified as a Torrey Pines High School student who lives near the school. Authorities declined to release his name because of his age. Later his name was revealed to be Jacob Peterson.
Eric Dill, superintendent of the San Dieguito Union High School District said, “Our hearts go out to the student, his family, and his friends…This is a difficult time for the family and we need to let them mourn.”
