Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 auction 2017 is set for tomorrow and there is palpable enthusiasm among cricket fans across the world. Despite India playing round the clock cricket over the last few months –England tour has just ended and Australia has just embarked on the Indian tour –no one has any doubt about the success of IPL 10.
The IPL 2017 auction is set for later today and the entire cricket world is awaiting the hammer to drop with bated breath. IPL has changed the sport called cricket completely. Before the arrival of IPL, cricket was known to be a poor man’s game. But now the money on offer is huge, though still on the lower side compared to soccer and the US football, it has gone up manifold.
It must be kept in mind that during the auction, the maximum attention is on the R 2 crore bracket that has seven players but franchises might adopt cautious approach while spending.
One thing that must be kept in mind is the fact that this year in this bracket there are no big Indian cricketers in the fray. There are as many as 356 cricket players on offer from across the continents. The auction will take place in Bengaluru. Given that the core of the teams is set, the eight IPL outfits will only be looking to bolster specific areas in their armoury.
It must be said here that the excitement level is very high as far as the Rs 2 crore bracket is concerned. It has seven players — Ben Stokes, Eoin Morgan, Angelo Mathews, Patrick Cummins, Mitchell Johnson, Ishant Sharma and Chris Woakes have opted for the highest reserve price. There are 15 players in the reserve price of Rs 1-1.5 crore.
In the shortest form of the game you don’t really look towards dependable batsmen who can play long innings and score a hundred in 100 or 90 balls. Here a player playing one good over will be given preference over a player known for playing great innings. It is understood that all-rounders, fast bowlers from abroad and leg-spinners will be in demand, which makes the likes of Stokes, Mathews, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir and Mitchell Santner hot property. While Stokes and Mathews are in the highest base price bracket, Rabada is in the Rs 1 crore slot and Tahir and Santner have preferred the Rs 50 lakh bracket.
The IPL Player Auction begins at 9 AM on Feb 20, 2017.
