Hyderabad: An Indian origin student was shot at in California and remains in critical condition three days after being attacked. 26-year old Mubeen Ahmed, who hails from Telangana was a student of California University was shot at on June 4.
Attacks on Indian American community have gone up sharply after the Presidential elections. Several people have lost their lives while many more have been injured. Merely last month, an Indian from Punjab was stabbed to death for refusing to sell a pack of cigarette without seeing the ID card of the buyer as is mandatory in that part of the US.
Reports suggest that Mubeen Ahmed, who is pursuing MS from California University, was shot in a shop where had started working as a part time shop assistant. Many Indian students, despite being admitted in good universities tend to do such jobs to fund their stay in the US.
Mubeen’s father, Mujeeb, says that he received a call from the hospital where his son is admitted saying his son was in critical condition and unconscious.
He went on to add, “The hospital authorities have called me and said my son is in ICU and in critical condition. We require a visa to be with him”. Mujeed works for the defence establishment ministry and his family to Sangareddy.
Sakshi news quoted his father as saying, “On the day Mubeen was at the store when a few persons of black origin came in to make some purchase. There was some heated argument between the customers and Mubeen. Later, they fired at him resulting in a rupture in his stomach and damage to liver”.
